Psych1on1 is a psychotherapy podcast featuring interviews with mental health professionals and anyone else who can expand our understanding of psychotherapeutic practice. Beginning June 2008 select Psych1on1 episodes will be offered as approved continuing education courses for mental health professionals. Psych1on1 is hosted and produced by Hugh Simmons, LCSW and began March 1st 2008.
Hugh Simmons is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-R) in Brooklyn, New York. In 1992 he received his MSW from Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work. Between then and 1998 Hugh launched and directed two city-wide clinical programs serving youth and families involved in the juvenile justice system. He also directed a community-based outpatient substance abuse treatment center. In 1998 Hugh organized over fifty Brooklyn psychotherapists (psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, pastoral counselors, etc.) to form a self-sustaining clinical support and education community. In 2001 he launched and for four years produced a community-access television program in Brooklyn about psychotherapy called Frontiers In Psychotherapy.TV.
Since 1997 Hugh has worked with adults, adolescents and latency-aged children in his full-time private psychotherapy practice. Hugh has post-masters training in psychoanalytic, gestalt and family systems theory. He is always looking to learn more.
